Goldsmiths lecturers reject privatisation plans

by Des Freedman, president, Goldsmiths UCU (personal capacity)
Issue No. 2126

This week lecturers at Goldsmiths College massively rejected management proposals to privatise the recruitment of teaching

of international students by bringing in private company Into.

In a college-wide referendum, 94 percent expressed the view that a partnership with Into would damage the academic reputation of the college.

As part of the campaign against marketisation, the UCU and student union organised a teach-in on Wednesday of last week which over 230 people attended.

We have shown that there is huge opposition to pushing the market in education.
