Strikes continue at double glazing plant

Issue No. 2126

Workers at Walker Profiles Northeast double glazing plant in South Shields held their tenth one-day strike on Friday of last week in an ongoing row over bonuses.

The workers took action after management cut their bonus scheme – in effect costing them around £70 a week. The dispute has been ongoing for the past three months.

Martin Gannon, of the GMB union, said: 'These workers are not looking for a pay rise, merely to maintain their income at a time when energy bills are rising by 40 to 50 per cent.”

Some workers have been forced to take second jobs to make ends meet as Christmas approaches.
