THE THREAT of strike action has made management at Blackburn College concede over pay.
Last year's national pay deal was not fully implemented by a large number of colleges.
Blackburn College was one of those. So we held a strike ballot, won it and announced the start of an indefinite strike to begin next week-during the crucial inspection of the college.
Management clearly panicked in a very big way and has now conceded the full implementation of the deal. The deal is actually not that wonderful but the fight to get it has transformed union organisation at the college.
We have had three of the biggest union meetings since the reorganisation of the colleges and lecturers' contracts a decade ago.
