A Nato airstrike killed scores of civilians at a wedding party near Kandahar in southern Afghanistan last week.
Outrageously the US military is accusing the resistance of deliberately provoking the airstrike.
A US official said, “We have first-hand knowledge that we know this was a deliberate act on the part of the Taliban to draw our forces into a fight and to cause civilian casualties.”
He has given no evidence to back up this claim. As the majority of resistance fighters are drawn from local populations it does not ring true that they would offer up their families as a sacrifice in a propaganda stunt.
The attack follows a pattern of increased civilian casualties caused by airstrikes. This year coalition warplanes have launched 13,802 attacks, up from 6,870 in 2006.
