Fighting to save jobs in York

Issue No. 2127

The GMB, Unite and Community unions have launched an initiative to save jobs and services in York.

They have organised a protest and rally demanding that job centres, post offices and the Remploy factory in York are saved.

Remploy factories, which provided jobs for disabled people, have come under attack from the government.

Workers fought the closure of the York factory but it was closed in March this year.

The protest will take place on Saturday 29 November, assembling at 11.30am at Museum Gardens.

It will be followed by a rally with speakers including Paul Kenny from the GMB, Mark Serwotka from the PCS, Billy Hayes from the CWU, national Remploy trade union convenor Les Woodward and Julia Long from Unite.
