Activists to discuss victimised health worker

Issue No. 2128

Those attending the “What’s going wrong in Unison?” meeting will be keen to discuss the on-going attempts to witchhunt high profile left wingers in the union, including Yunus Bakhsh.

Yunus, a psychiatric nurse who has been sacked by his employer for his trade union activities, now faces disciplinary action by his own union, following unsubstantiated anonymous complaints against him.

Earlier this month it emerged that allegations against him – which included a campaign of harassment at people’s homes – could not be reconciled with the records of the police.

Unison has failed to respond to demands by Yunus’s solicitor for his name to be cleared from such an outrageous slur.

Activists in the union have also been angered to hear that the leadership of Unison have scheduled a mitigation hearing with Yunus for 19 November—despite being presented with medical evidence that shows he is unfit to attend.
