People Before Profit Charter: turning the heat on banks

Issue No. 2128

Supporters of the People Before Profit Charter are continuing to organise protests and events to highlight the charter's ten demands to improve the lives of working people in the face of the crisis.

In Newcastle, the charter and a number of other groups held a rally against home repossessions last Saturday.

Charter supporters in Hackney, east London, are set to protest at the Halifax bank on Mare Street at 11am this Saturday 22 November against home repossessions and bank bonuses. A number of Turkish groups are backing the event.

The People's Alternative Economic Summit is set to meet next Monday 24 November at the University of London Union, Malet Street in central London, so that ordinary people can put forward their solutions to the global meltdown.

This will be an alternative to chancellor Alistair Darling's pre-budget statement and last weekend's Washington summit. The meeting will begin at 7pm and speakers include Tony Benn, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Sasha Callaghan of the UCU and Tony Kearns, deputy general secretary of the CWU.
