The Unite union’s pay campaign on the London buses is reaching a critical moment.
Many activists feel that the union must name a date for strike action or risk losing the momentum of the campaign.
Until now, workers at companies across London have united to demand a 5 percent pay rise or a £30,000 drivers wage. But with Christmas looming and planned strikes suspended due to threats of legal action, many companies will be trying to use the promise of back pay to settle pay claims.
At most companies workers have resisted this pressure. At Travel London last week, workers voted by 194 to 26 to reject the latest pay offer.
The union must match its political campaign with industrial action.
