Derry factory occupation against redundancies

Issue No. 2129

Workers at Calcast in Derry, Northern Ireland, have gone into occupation after 90 redundancies were announced.

The workers, who make parts for Ford, are demanding decent redundancy pay.

Workers’ rep Liam Helferty said, “Workers who have served the company for more than ten years will only receive the equivalent of three months pay.

“We’re determined to make a stand here.”
