Some 40 teachers in the Socialist Teachers Alliance (STA) met last Saturday.
The meeting took place against the background of the unfolding economic crisis, and in the aftermath of the NUT executive decision not to go ahead with strike action over pay.
The meeting saw an airing of the different views in the STA about the executive decision in the pay campaign.
The majority of STA supporters on the union’s executive had voted against action, while three executive members – including the two Socialist Worker supporters on the executive – had voted for it to go ahead.
Both sides put their arguments to Saturday’s meeting, and while the disagreement was not resolved there was also unity on the need to focus on the way forward now.
