Build the resistance

Issue No. 1772

Stop this slaughter

NEW LABOUR is worried by the growing resistance to the war Britain and the US are waging on the people of Afghanistan. The government was shocked by the size of the 50,000-strong demonstration in London against the war.

It is scared by the revolt in Labour's ranks, even though so far only a small number of MPs have spoken out against the war. And the government is terrified that the national demonstration in London set for Sunday 18 November could be a huge show of opposition to its war. The government is right to be worried, and people are right to build the resistance to its war.

The war is killing hundreds of people in Afghanistan, and devastating further an already devastated country. Worse still, the war is now threatening to starve millions to death when the winter comes to Afghanistan in a few weeks time. The war is also threatening instability and upheaval right across the Middle East.

We believe it is the duty of everyone who cares about humanity to stand up and build the resistance to this barbarous war.
