Lecturers take on the market

Over 30 UCU union members from the Yorkshire and Humberside and Northern regions attended a conference in York last Saturday titled, “Challenging the market in education”.

Delegates discussed the growing threats posed by privatisation in both further and higher education and how this is undermining the quality of education and the very notion of real education.

As one lecturer put it, “We have to stand up and defend real education, stop being compliant, and resist the bullying.”

We set up a contact network from the conference and agreed to produce a report to go to every branch and activist in the two regions.
