Scottish Power

Issue No. 1772

STRIKE action planned at Scottish Power this week has been called off to allow negotiations with management. The decision was taken at a stewards' meeting addressed by officials from the AEEU, GMB and TGWU unions.

The union officials wanted to call off all the action because of a management offer of talks. However, after some argument stewards agreed only to call off the first two days of strike action.

Strikes are still planned for next week and the following week. Many stewards and workers were angry about the decision to call off the first two days of action. One steward said, 'Everyone at my depot is ready for action. I don't want management and the union demoralising people with a series of excuses to call off the action so they can land us with a crap deal.'
