Lecturers vote to strike

Issue No. 2135

Members of the UCU lecturers’ union at 11 colleges have voted to strike on Thursday 5 February.

This is because management have refused to implement a nationally agreed pay deal that would have given us an extra £4,500 in our pay packets. This deal was agreed over four years ago.

The colleges involved are Askham Bryan, Dearne Valley, Doncaster and Rotherham in South Yorkshire, Nelson and Colne in Lancashire, Sandwell and Evesham in the West Midlands plus Croydon, Greenwich, North West London and Sussex Downs in the south east of England.

Nearly 70 percent voted for strike action in the ballot.

We hope that local workers from other trade unions, as well as students, will join us on the picket lines.
