Barnsley teachers to strike over colleague's pay cut

by Dave Gibson, secretary Barnsley college UCU
Issue No. 2135

Teachers in the NUT union at Joseph Locke primary school in Barnsley are to strike for three days this week in solidarity with a member who faces a pay cut of £4,000.

The strike was to take place from Tuesday until Thursday of this week. The seven NUT members have struck for seven days since December. They are to take ten more days of action over the next four weeks.

The school’s headteacher has reneged on a deal with the NUT to stop pay cuts resulting from the so-called “social partnership” between some teaching unions and the government.
