Good Friday: The Death of Irish Republicanism

by Simon Basketter
Issue No. 2136

Anthony McIntyre has been one of the most determined of Sinn Fein’s critics. But unlike most critics of the Irish Republican party he is not coming from the right.

Rather, as a former member of the IRA, McIntyre has charted the Republicans’ move from armed struggle to unarmed reformists with an insider’s eye.

This collection of articles reflects the shock and then the anger of a section of the Republican movement with Sinn Fein’s leaders and the course of the peace process.

McIntyre often held unpopular positions as the process developed. Not all of the analysis stands up, but it is an interesting and passionate engagement with the politics of Northern Ireland.
