Lecturers set to strike over pay

Issue No. 2137

Further education lecturers in eleven colleges will be out on strike on Thursday of this week.

The workers, members of the UCU union, are striking because their managements have refused to implement a nationally agreed pay deal that was signed in 2004.

Some 70 percent of lecturers voted for action.

Lecturers will also begin voting for national executive members and national officers on Thursday of this week. The UCU Left is standing a number of candidates.
