Over 100 workers joined a lobby of Leeds councillors on Wednesday of last week to support workers in East North East Homes Leeds (ENEHL) and Unison union convenor John McDermott.
ENEHL is a council funded arms length management organisation that provides services to council homes in Leeds.
It has torn up agreements about trade union facilities and has suspended John, who is also a Unison national executive member, for carrying out trade union activities.
John’s disciplinary hearing is scheduled for Tuesday of next week and ENEHL has made it clear that he will be dismissed.
Unison members in ENEHL have already taken strike action over the case are currently being re-balloted. The result will be known this week.
Unison stewards across the council have voted to escalate the dispute and ballot all members across the council.
