Unions have responded angrily to managers threatening to withhold pay or deduct holidays from employees who couldn’t get to work last week because of heavy snow.
On Monday this week London’s Tory mayor Boris Johnson was forced to backtrack on such a move against London Underground workers.
Some further education colleges are still threatening to deduct holidays because hazardous weather prevented people from getting to work.
This was despite official advice not to travel in such dangerous conditions. UCU general secretary Sally Hunt has urged colleges to retract the threats.
