Scottish Parliament lobbied over housing

Some 100 trade unionists and tenants lobbied the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh over housing on Thursday of last week.

The lobby was called by the Unite union’s Scottish Housing Associations branch and supported by the Scottish TUC and tenants’ groups.

It demanded that the Scottish National Party (SNP) government drops proposed “efficiency plans” for housing associations in Scotland.

These plans threaten jobs, working conditions and the quality of services that housing associations provide.

Only days before the lobby the SNP sacked its housing minister and agreed to restore some of the funding cuts they had introduced last year.

Unite is now planning to launch a Scottish housing summit with other unions, tenants and campaigners.
