Community service supervisors employed by Glasgow council are now in their eighth week of indefnite strike action.
The council wants to regrade the 21 workers as part of its single status agreement. This would mean some workers losing up to £1,000 a year while working an extra day a week.
The workers supervise people ordered by the courts to do community service.
Striker Donald McNaughton told Socialist Worker, “We’re still 100 percent solid. The council is refusing to talk to us, which shows the contempt that they have for their workers and for the job that we do.
“We have had a lot of support from across the trade union movement and the public.”
Glasgow Unison union is about to start a branch-wide strike ballot after the council broke an agreement it signed in December 2006 promising there would be no loss of pay due to single status.
