Tower Hamlets housing workers ballot for strike

Issue No. 2140

Workers at One Housing Group in Tower Hamlets, east London, are balloting for strike action against the dismissal of their senior Unison union steward Debbie Cordrey.

Council housing on the Isle of Dogs was taken from council control in 2005. It is now run by One Housing Group.

The charges against Debbie include “behaviour actively and consciously designed to undermine management”.

Evidence against her includes, “She drags her feet when she walks around the office and therefore looks downbeat – this is not motivational for her team.”

Management wants to restructure the service, leaving one office on the Isle of Dogs, with services transferring to a call centre. A meeting in Debbie’s support, organised by residents and Unison, was to take place on Thursday of this week.

Email messages of protest to Mick Sweeney, chief executive of One Housing Group at msweeney@onehousinggroup.co.uk

Email messages of support for Debbie to John McLoughlin, Unison Tower Hamlets branch secretary, at john.mcloughlin@towerhamlets.gov.uk
