Leeds council stewards to discuss response to job cuts plan

Issue No. 2140

Unison union stewards in Leeds council were set to meet on Wednesday of this week to discuss their response to the council’s plans to axe at least 450 jobs.

The meeting will also discuss the council’s attacks on workers’ terms and conditions. A previous meeting voted in support of strike action to defend victimised union rep John McDermott.

A Leeds council worker said, “The last union meeting we had was determined to fight back – and that was even before we heard about the job losses. There is a real level of fury now.”
