Threat to sack 800 at London Metropolitan University

In one of the biggest assaults on workers in higher education yet seen, management at London Metropolitan University have announced that up to one quarter of all workers will lose their jobs by the end of the next academic year.

The threat to sack up to 800 admin and academic staff stems from government education funding cuts – and the incompetence of our bosses.

If the redundancies go ahead they will leave a major hole in education provision in London.

The UCU lecturers’ union has joined forces with Unison and the NUS to launch a campaign to stop the redundancies. We are calling for the resignation of the university’s £275,000 a year vice chancellor, Brian Roper, and for the government to bail out the university.
