Teachers’ strike over dress code called off

Issue No. 2144

A planned strike in defence of a sacked teacher, due to take place on Thursday of last week, was called off.

Adrian Swain was sacked from St Paul’s Way Community School in Tower Hamlets, east London, last December.

The official reason was that he wore trainers in class, but teachers suspect that his trade union activities lay behind his sacking.

The NUT union called off the strike after reaching a confidential agreement with Tower Hamlets council.
