Time for a major programme of council housing

Issue No. 2145

Figures released last week show that the public sector is now funding almost half of the new homes that are being built.

But this is not due to an expansion in council housing. It is because private builders have collapsed as a result of the crisis. The public sector was responsible for around 45 percent of home starts in the period from December to February.

There should be a major programme of council house building to provide decent homes and jobs for everyone suffering in the recession.
