Management at Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust last week upheld the sacking of Yunus Bakhsh.
The senior union activist and nurse of 23 years was sacked after health bosses received an “anonymous” complaint against him. At the time, Yunus demanded that his employers investigate the possibility that it had been racially motivated.
Since then it has emerged that Kerry Cafferty, a key witness in the case and one of those who submitted the complaint, was a member of Facebook sites that were a focus for racists.
As a number of legal cases are forthcoming it is not possible for Socialist Worker to report the hearing in detail.
A Unison investigation into far-right infiltration of the union’s northern region, has yet to issue its report.
Trust bosses have so far been unable to provide a full written explanation for their decision, despite having promised to do so.
The campaign to defend Yunus Bakhsh urgently needs funds to continue its legal actions. For details email [email protected] or write to Defend Yunus Bakhsh Campaign, c/o 46c Lawe Road, South Shields, Tyne and Wear NE33 2EN
