Rail workers to strike over jobs

Issue No. 2149

Around 700 members of the RMT transport union at East Midlands Trains were set to strike on Friday of this week against 162 job losses and the company’s failure to guarantee that there will be no compulsory redundancies.

The company, which is a subsidiary of Stagecoach, runs from Derby, Nottingham, Sheffield and London St Pancras.

Around 100 train conductors in the RMT union working at London Midland depots at Bletchley, Northampton and Watford have named two months of strike dates in their dispute.

The workers will strike every Sunday from this week until 21 June unless the dispute is resolved.
