New Labour is openly saying it expects a drubbing in next month’s European elections. Socialists and anti-fascists have to make every effort to stop the BNP benefiting from growing unemployment, and the establishment parties championing cuts in services.
This begs the question of who we should vote for. Unfortunately there is not one clear and united choice that we can point to as an alternative to the free market agenda.
Elsewhere in Europe socialists can vote for parties of the radical left such as the New Anti-capitalist Party in France and Die Linke in Germany.
Socialist Worker urges its readers to vote for candidates of the left – those who oppose the austerity programme of Gordon Brown and David Cameron and who will best help build resistance to unemployment, cuts and pay freezes.
Meanwhile we should all also work together to build solidarity for the Visteon workers and for the 16 May jobs march in Birmingham.
