Easy Star’s Lonely Heart’s Dub Band

by Siân Ruddick
Issue No. 2151

The soul-shaking sound of a good dub beat has returned in the form of the Easy Star All Star’s latest offering.

They are known for remaking other works – most famously the Dub Side of the Moon reworked Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.

But the new album, a tribute to the Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, is pretty adventurous.

The band includes two saxophone players, a huge percussion section and several vocalists, all influenced by a variety of music styles, including soul, old school reggae and dancehall.

This creates a vibrant sound. It’s perfect summer listening.
