Netanyahu tells it like it is over Palestine

Issue No. 2152

When it comes to arrogance, no one can fault Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel’s new prime minister gave his US paymasters a shock when he declared that his government would not even pretend to back a two state solution for the Palestinians.

Netanyahu refused to assure Barack Obama that Israel would give Palestinians even some control over the tiny slice of their homeland that remains.

A two state solution was designed to draw a section of the Palestinian leadership into the idea that they could get something if they behaved. Now even that illusion has been shattered.

Obama reacted by threatening “no more blank cheques” for the Israelis.

But Netanyahu knows that the US depends on Israel to guard its interests in the Middle East.

Obama will now have to tell his allies in the Arab world there’s nothing he can do to bring justice for the Palestinians.

And the Arab rulers will have to explain to their angry populations how they were again duped by the promises of imperialism.
