Inside at Christmas

Issue No. 1676

ALL OF the cases below are miscarriages of justice. Socialist Worker urges all our readers to send cards and messages of support to them for Christmas. Why not take a card round your workmates to sign? Make sure you send it off in good time.

WINSTON SILCOTT continues to be smeared by the right wing press and the Metropolitan Police. Winston was cleared in 1991 of killing PC Blakelock during the 1985 Broadwater Farm riot. He has now been in prison for 14 years, supposedly for the murder of black boxer Anthony Smith. But all the evidence points to Winston being guilty of nothing more than self defence.
Winston Silcott , B74053, HMP Maidstone, 36 County Road, Maidstone, Kent ME14 1UZ.

SATPAL RAM was attacked in November 1995 by racists in a Birmingham Indian restaurant. Satpal defended himself. His attacker died later after refusing hospital treatment. Satpal has been persecuted by the prison system because he refuses to admit his 'guilt'. He has been moved over 50 times from prison to prison and kept in solitary confinement.
Satpal Ram, E94164, HMP Full Sutton, Moor Lane, Stamford Bridge, York Y04 IPS.

THE M25 Three were wrongly convicted of murder and robberies along the M25 motorway in 1990. Victims of the robberies say they were attacked by two white men and a black man. All of the M25 Three are black. Raphael Rowe's mother, Rosemary, told Socialist Worker, 'The case has been sent back to the court of appeal by the Criminal Cases Review Commission. 'We are waiting for a date. We are hoping it will be early next year.'

Raphael Rowe, HMP Kingston, Milton Road, Portsmouth, Hants PO3 6AS.

Michael Davis, MP 3661, Swaleside Prison, Brabalon Road, Sheerness, Kent ME12 4DZ.

Randolph Johnson, MP 3903, York Prison, Askham Grange, Askham Richard, York YO2 3PT.

ISHTIAQ AHMED has been in prison for ten years for the Reading 'bedsit murder' that he has always said he did not commit. At an unsuccessful hearing in 1995 Michael Mansfield QC, representing Ishtiaq, criticised the police investigation for focusing its attention entirely on Ishtiaq. Ishtiaq Ahmed's sister Naheed Khan told Socialist Worker, 'The whole case against Ishtiaq is based on one key witness. Her first four statements to the police did not incriminate Ishtiaq, but eventually she gave in. 'After ten years this witness has now been recorded admitting that Ishtiaq is innocent. The campaign is supported by many communities in Reading and beyond. Over 30 MPs have supported Ishtiaq.'
Ishtiaq Ahmed, WV2288, HMP Coldingley, Shaftesbury Road, Bisley, Woking, Surrey.
