Liberté - Khaled

Issue No. 2154

This new album has Khaled, the king of Raï music, returning to the source of Algeria’s rebellious music.

Liberté has many songs that until now were only available in the versions recorded in the early 1980s.

These classic tracks are given a new orchestral dimension without losing that bouncy energy of the originals, including La Liberté (Freedom)

The lyrics of this huge hit – recorded during a violent period in Algeria – have a double meaning.

The song is about a man trying to escape “two years of suffering” from an unhappy relationship.

Two years is the duration of military service in Algeria.
