Campaign beats NHS sell off

Issue No. 2154

Campaigners are celebrating victory in a long-running effort to stop the privatisation of a GPs’ practice at the Laurels Health Centre in Tottenham, north London.

Bosses at the Haringey and Enfield Primary Care Trust had insisted that the practice should be put out to tender and potential privatisation, despite there being very little local support for such a move.

A broad based local campaign was launched to support a bid by local GPs already based at the Laurels. It has now been announced that this bid has been successful – meaning that the practice will be kept firmly in NHS hands.
