TRADE UNIONISTS in west London are organising to raise solidarity with the Sky Chefs workers in the run up to Xmas. They are calling on everyone-trade unionists, campaign groups, etc-to collect money to take to the picket line on Sunday 19 December. The 270 workers were sacked by Lufthansa just over one year ago for taking part in a legal one day strike.
Ealing teachers agreed last week to launch a 'Solidarity Appeal'. Ealing NUT secretary Nick Grant said, 'Some people in Ealing NUT already have individual monthly standing orders to support Sky Chefs. Now we've mailed out collection sheets to all the schools in the area.' Similar collections are planned in other workplaces in the area. Whenever we raise the dispute, we get a good res p onse,' reports a Hammersmith council worker. 'People identify with the fight for workers' rights.'
Solidarity collections will be handed in to the Sky Chefs picket line at 2pm on Sunday 19 December.
If you can't get to the picket line, send messages of support and donations to: 14 Myrtle Avenue, Bedfont, Middlesex. Cheques payable to the Lufthansa Sky Chefs Strike Fund.
