NUJ Left demands jobs and rights

by NUJ activist
Issue No. 2155

Left activists in the NUJ journalists’ union are calling for mass action to support local authority workers who refuse to work with the fascist BNP members elected as councillors in last week’s elections.

They made this call at the first conference of the newly-formed NUJ Left group, held in central London recently.

The NUJ Left is calling on the union leadership to reconvene the highly successful “Jobs Summit” which took place in January.

The summit helped galvanise the union’s campaign against job cuts.

The NUJ Left is also calling for mass action to support Irish journalist Suzanne Breen.

She faces possible imprisonment for refusing to hand over documents to the Police Service of Northern Ireland relating to articles about the Real IRA.

A protest in her support was set to take place in London on Thursday of this week.
