Postal workers in Watford have voted to strike in defence of the union’s area safety rep Bob Kennedy, who has been suspended without charge for nine weeks.
CWU branch secretary Alan Walsh told Socialist Worker that the feeling that Bob is being treated in a wholly unjust way is particularly strong in the town’s mail centre.
“The vote for strike there was greater than three to one,” he said. “That is a reflection of how angry people are.
“The conclusion that many are drawing is that this is yet another attack on the union at Watford. One of our leading reps has already had his facility time taken away.
“We have no intention of standing for it.
“If Bob is not returned to work with all charges against him dropped, we will be on strike very soon.”
