It was standing room only as 120 tenants from the Regents Park Estate in Camden, north London, attended a meeting called by Keep our NHS Public last week about plans for a new so-called “GP-led health centre”.
These clinics will have to compete with local doctors for resources and patients – and the government insists they be put out for private tender.
Campaigners leafleted local schools and shops and used a loudspeaker on a car and posters across the estate to publicise the threat.
The meeting pledged to oppose threats to introduce private companies to run our GP services, and to demand that the money planned for the new clinic should be spent on improving local doctor practices instead.
A lobby has been called of the next council scrutiny meeting.
