Glasgow council battles continue

Issue No. 2156

Last week’s planned indefinite strike action by 1,300 GMB, Unison and Unite union members in Glasgow council’s land and environmental services department was called off after concessions were made.

The council has agreed to remove its threat to sack workers who have refused to sign up to new imposed shift patterns, and agreed to seek a negotiated settlement with the unions

Elsewhere within the council, over 400 administration workers in social work department have voted to take indefinite action over the council’s refusal to award “work context” payments in the single status pay review.

The council claims that the workers do not qualify for this payment as they have insufficient contact with service users.
