Twenty local young people attended a workshop on fighting the fascist British National Party (BNP) in Newham, east London, on Tuesday of last week.

The event was organised by Elvige, a Newham resident.

After introductions, we broke into small workshops to look at questions such as what the BNP stands for and what might happen if it came to power.

A Unite Against Fascism (UAF) representative joined a lively discussion about racism.

Elvige explained, “I wanted to get young people together who want to actively oppose the BNP. It was also great to hear that people were keen to take action against the BNP.

“We’ve been invited to a local young people’s music event. We’ll also be going to the national UAF conference in Manchester on 18 July.”
