Strike against redundancies

Issue No. 2158

Rail engineers in the RMT transport union at Jarvis Rail and Fastline struck for 48 hours from 6am last Saturday against the companies’ refusal to give guarantees on compulsory redundancies.

This could mean 200 workers being sacked. Thousands of jobs on the railways are being threatened by Network Rail’s decision to defer almost a third of track renewal work as it tries to save £3 billion.

Unless a deal is reached the workers will strike for another 48-hours from 6am on Saturday 11 July.
