London Metropolitan University joint strike against cuts

Issue No. 2158

Workers in the UCU and Unison unions at London Metropolitan University are set to come together in a day of joint strike action on Friday of this week.

The strike is part of a continuing campaign against massive job cuts that, if implemented, would devastate the university. Up to a quarter of all jobs could go.

The strike will be the first time that UCU and Unison members have struck together at London Met. UCU members struck in May.

Activists met on Monday of this week to discuss how to continue the campaign over the summer. Workers may call further action to hit resits, which will take place at the end of July. They may also call for strikes during clearing, in August.

There is opposition to the planned cuts among workers and students.

The cuts would hit the most vulnerable as 97.3 percent of students come from state schools or colleges and 42.9 percent from the poorest economic groups.
