Students face deportation

Issue No. 2159

Nine Pakistani students arrested as “terror suspects” but released without charge in April are now awaiting deportation.

A packed public meeting at Soas in London on 2 July heard how the secret services want to expel them as a “danger to national security”.

On 27 July they will appear before the Special Immigration Appeals Commission to demand bail.

Gareth Peirce, solicitor for one of the students, told the meeting that the government will present secret evidence, to which the students and their lawyers will not have access. They may be deported never knowing the accusations against them.
