The march in Wednesbury

Last Saturday more than 100 people marched through Wednesbury in the Black Country against attacks on union activists at Carphone Warehouse.

The march by Communication Workers Union (CWU) members and other local trade unionists ended at the gates of the Carphone Warehouse Logistics Centre.

It was here that CWU activist Sulinder Kumar was sacked and Kulwinder Plaha, the CWU rep on the site, has been suspended for taking out a grievance against a manager. Local managers interviewed dozens of staff in an unsuccessful attempt to find someone who could testify against the two.

The company was so determined to stop workers seeing a demonstration that it closed the site for the day.

Carphone Warehouse are out to break the union and they won't stop at the logistics centre.

Trade unionists need to get behind the week of action starting from 26 July. Every town and city should have large numbers of trade unionists outside Carphone Warehouse shops during that week.

On Saturday 1 August, there will be a mass leafleting of the Carphone Warehouse at 4 Oxford St (next to Tottenham Court Road tube) in London from 12 noon. Contact Tom Dale 07894 461 713 or tdale.cwu@googlemail.com for more info
