Academy fight continues in Tamworth

Issue No. 2161

The fight against academy schools in Tamworth is set to continue when teachers return from the summer break.

Teachers in both the NUT and ATL unions across five schools in the town plan to hold a joint day of strike action on Wednesday 16 September against plans to reorganise the schools.

Teachers have already taken several solid days of strike action against the plans.

A privately-sponsored sixth form centre would replace all sixth form provision in the existing schools.

The plans would also lead to the closure of a community high school in the town.

The local authority is determined to continue with the unpopular reorganisation despite meetings between union representatives an the council.
