Consultative ballot at Cadbury

Issue No. 2161

Some 1,300 workers in the Unite union at Cadbury are involved in a consultative ballot over pay.

Workers at Cadbury plants at Bourneville, Chirk, Marlbrook and Somerdale, are angry that management is refusing to honour the final year of a three year pay deal.

Unite say the ballot will exclude workers at Cadbury’s Somerdale site because of a clause in their redundancy agreement which says they forfeit all enhanced redundancy payments if they take any industrial action.

Cadbury had agreed a deal of RPI plus 0.5 percent, with a minimum of two percent for 2009. The company is imposing a deal of 0.5 percent.

The ballot opens on 18 July and closes on 18 August.
