Al Richardson, who died last month, made an important contribution to the history of the revolutionary socialist movement.
His books, Against the Stream and War and the International, deal with the origins of British Trotskyism. In 1988 Al helped found the journal Revolutionary History. He had many disagreements with the SWP. He thought revolutionaries should be inside the Labour Party. But he cooperated with anyone interested in the history of the movement.
At the time of his death I was helping Al with his translation of articles by Victor Serge on Russian culture in the 1920s, which is virtually complete.
Al will be sadly missed.
