An enterprising vote for strikes

Issue No. 2162

Enterprise-Liverpool workers in the GMB union have voted by a massive 97 percent for industrial action in a dispute over pay and conditions.

The Unite union at the company began a ballot for action on Monday of this week which will end on Monday 3 August.

“Enterprise made £74 million in profits last year but they tell us they’ve got no money,” Ian Lowes, GMB branch secretary, told Socialist Worker.

“We expect Unite to get a similar result and hope to coordinate action with them.

“We have an indication that the bosses plan to try and use agency staff to break the strike but the size of the vote shows how determined workers are.”

The first day of action is likely to be mid-August. Workers involved include refuse collectors, street cleansing and maintenance staff.
