Court grants Vestas an injunction against workers' occupation

by Siân Ruddick, in the Isle of Wight
Issue No. 2162

A court in Newport, the Isle of Wight has granted multinational wind turbine company Vestas an injunction against workers who are currently occupying one of its plants.

The injunction means that the workers will now be ordered to leave the plant.

Workers have occupied the site for two weeks in protest at the planned closure of the plant and the loss of 600 jobs. They have led an inspiring struggle and won support from across the trade union and environmental movement.

A lively demonstration of over 150 workers and their supporters gathered outside the court to hear the verdict. They are currently marching to the plant from the court and the occupying workers will discuss their response to the court ruling.
