Barclays workers fight for pensions

Issue No. 2164

Unite activists picketed Barclays shareholders on Thursday to protest against the closure of their final salary pension scheme.

Union members voted overwhelmingly to ask for a strike ballot, but Unite is prevaricating and asking for further consultation.

The union’s lay leadership in Barclays must break free of its partnership past with the bank.

The bank has already altered its position just on the strength of a consultative ballot. It can be beaten.

The union should organise a day of action outside every single Barclays workplace—and get on with organising its ballot.
